Cineaste

An article on my movies is published in the Summer 2007 issue of the American magazine Cineaste , which includes an interview. I haven't read it myself!

Hi Amir,

Is there a collection of your old "Perforated Sheets" columns anywhere? Those were pure satiric gold, not found any where in the present time any more, except for occasional rants from Patrick Teoh's Niamah blog and that Mary Schneider from The Star.

I'm reading one that you titled, "Do you feel lucky, punk?". It's still as relevant today as many years ago (just replace "punk" with "rempit").

Some of the Perforated Sheets articles were republished in the book Generation (1997); copies are available at Silverfish Books and (I think) Kino.

As for the others, well, bookmark this.

Just read it. Unfortunately full of factual errors. Oh well! Who says the American media is all that?

Amir,
read your intention of publishing your NST's column into a book. Can't wait since this will make academic referencing much more easier.
Brovo on the NST piece about Amrstrong and the Kelantanese bomoh. I myself am amused by Mona Fendi!

No, I am not publishing my NST columns as a book. They are just too topical and it would be sad to need footnotes to explain jokes. The book I am working on is instead a new compilation of actual quotes and drawings :-)

HI Amir,

I've read it. The interview is good, funny as always and it's also good that you explain stuff as the readership is N. American and would have little to no idea about Malaysian culture. I caught a few typos and errors in his article though, mispelling of Sepet (which became Septet), and calling the May '69 race riots "Chinese riots" and mistaking the scene with the tudung-ed woman talking about her Italian trip from Big Durian to be in LKT. -- Gaik
